Sleep Paralysis

Night comes and sleep arrives
A good night’s sleep is hoped
But nightmare crawls and creeps
In the shadows, it waits

Eyes open but unable to move
A witch sits at the bed’s edge
Her menacing look and crooked evil smile, says it all
She moves her claw like hands to grab the sleeper’s leg
But her attempt is in vain as the sleeper awakens

The witch is gone!
Gone for now

In the shadows it waits once more
Nightmare crawls and creeps
A good night’s sleep is hoped
As night comes and sleep arrives

I posted about my experience with sleep paralysis back in 2020. It was titled Nightmare. I only experienced it once but I don’t intend for it to happen again.

Used To

I used to see you in my dreams

But now, that’s all gone it seems

You came, stayed a while, then off you went

Our time together has been spent

I wish you’d visit me once again

Back in my dreams, I’d stay there and wouldn’t complain

Tired Eyes

She could feel her eyes falling heavy
It’s unlike the one she had in earlier years
Each year, it gets more tired
And it’s not due to lack of sleep
She could feel her age creeping up
Mixing all emotions in one

Sometimes she feels too old for her age
But too young to be feeling so old
Despite it all, she shows up all smiling
Praying to win another day

Hush Little Baby

Image credit; Kelly Sikkema @ Unsplash

For the visually challenged reader, the image shows a young woman holding a child wrapped in a white blanket, close to her bosom.

The baby cried
But mama was already tired
Someone else picked him up
Sang a song and so he stopped
He listened to the familiar voice
The song she sang was a very good choice
He felt safe wrapped in her arms
She was certainly working her charms

He loved her voice, it was so calming
That is why he stopped crying
The song went on as he drifted to sleep
He slept soundly, didn't make a peep
His mama was thankful that his aunt was there
So she took a nap on the reclining chair
