I dragged my feet as I walked out the bedroom
Eyes, sleepy and sagging…still wanting more sleep
I managed to take a shower, getting ready to work from home
Still I was feeling sleepy
Oh woe is me!
Finally after an hour or two, I decided I badly need one
So, a cup of coffee I drank and my day finally began
Oh! The sound that tells you to end your sleep.
Why must I part with my bed and pillows?
Oh yes, bills don’t pay on their own, unfortunately
So reluctantly I get up and ‘start the day’
My eyes were closed but I wasn’t asleep
My mind was wide awake
Sleepiness forgot about me
So I never slept
I couldn’t keep my eyes open
They closed so fast
I forgot to put an end to this po…..
Oh sleep! Oh sleep! Where are you?
Although this is nothing new
It always makes me feel blue.
I close my eyes but my mind is awake
Come and visit me, for goodness sake!
Come and hum your lullaby
Don’t just pass me by.
Let me in to dream land
And experience a sleep so grand.
Hear my plea, and come to me
Let me sleep and rest, finally.
I wouldn’t have mind the humidity
I would’ve kept my flexibility
Had it been I was on vacation
Rather than trying to get some sleep in my room
I wouldn’t have mind sweating so
Had it been I was exercising or was on the go
But I am just trying to catch a good nights sleep
I flip over, bounce about just looking for the right spot
But sleepless night I got
How will I sleep soundly with this humidity?
And I closed my eyes and nodded off to dreamland
But deep inside I’m wide awake
The night stretches to morning
While I pretend to sleep
The sea of blankets is calling
The island of pillows await
The bed beyond is home for my tired body
The eyes drift…..slowly
I sleep with the night light off
The stars twinkle above my head
And the moon sings lullabies
