Here Comes The New

The new year is near

Days, hours, and minutes are now here

Celebration for the new year

Sparkles and fireworks

Have a good and safe new year!

New Year, New Love

They all wish and want someone new

They don’t see, I want no one but you!

They say a spark will come along from someone else

But I hear no other bells,

None but just for you.

The year may be new but my love, is all the same

New Day

The morning is warm

Fills my insides with sunlight

I face the day

Like I haven’t faced it before

New As A New Day

The ghosts of the evening fade

Dawn awakens, stretches its limbs

Twilight yawns its weary, sleepy head

As the sun peeks

New day

New hope

New light

A chance to do and see things in a different way

New

There is something new

With the look on your face

The way you smile

The way you walk and talk and whistle

Something’s got you going

Something’s really new

It’s not just your hair

It’s the whole of you

Whatever has got you going

Making you feel and look all new

It’s working perfectly

And I wouldn’t have it any other way

Leave behind the worries

Take with you the lessons

Move forward and move on

But look back and know that whatever challenge comes,

you’ll be able to over come it

Welcome The New Day

The sunlight kisses the mountain top

Slowly it brightens the once dark land

I crept out from my cave

And welcome the new day

New Year, Same Old Me

New Year, old self

same eyes of brown…so brown it drowns the sorrow

and only amazement and light is shown

New clothes, old body

fashioned in such a way that slimming is not an option

but happy to be healthy

New earrings, old skin

not as tight as it used to be

but I wouldn’t change it for another

So many things new, material things they are

not as important as staying true

to ones self

Onion Skin

Onion skin, onion ring, what good could you possibly bring?

I peel off each set of skin and I watch them all fall

They fall to the ground but they do not decay

I hear them cry and scream in fear

But I continue on

I remove the skins as if removing a suit of armor

Difficult, tight, not easy

Happy I am to get rid of them

Yet my eyes sweat the salty waters

I continue to remove them but oh it hurts me so

Still I know what I must do

The onion skin reveals a face

A face that’s strange to me

Hidden for so long that familiarity has flown out the window

Remove them slowly and let them all fall

The time to show the real me

Has come at long last

Goodbye onion skin

Farewell to thee

I shed and peel them off despite the sting

left on my new set of skin

This New Year

she looked at me with sad eyes – they were puffy from crying

it’s one of those sad days when you just want to escape – feel like flying

away, just far away from here

far away from this daunting fear

yet reality was there in front of me

we were imprisoned and I wanted to be set free

I wanted to see her dance and sing

oh! the joy that it used to bring

I pictured enjoying the new year, with her and the family

us sitting at the table, eating happily

yet here we are with the news we dreaded

we all knew where this was headed

like every hurdle, we’ll get through this, I know

it’s just I feel like breaking sometimes — my smile is just for show

I’m doing this all for her, I need to stay strong

and one day, she’ll be able to sing that familiar song
