I Breathe Fire Because I Can

The dragons call me their own

Lucky enough are the ones who come close and don’t get burned

Stare me down, they cower in fear.

I am invincible.

I won’t and will not back down.

Fierce as the red flame yet cooler than ice.

Bite me and you become charcoal

Charred lips, blackened body

Is what will be left behind

The temperature does not change as quickly as I do.

Breathe air, breathe water

But it is fire that fuels me.

Bow down to the dragon queen

Dragonflies

I dreamed of dragons and their lovely wings

They hover for a moment then gone in an instant

just to appear suddenly, once more

Dragons with their big bulgy eyes

breathing water instead of fire

Brown or greenish when they are young

Then colorful as adults

I use to chase them and they land on my fingers

Now they’re gone or are in hiding

Poor creatures

Driven to extinction

Slowly they become no more

Small and mighty were they

Tonight I’ll dream of dragons and imagine

them dancing with the fireflies

As the crickets play the maracas under a moonless sky
