Innocence

Everything is wonderful and magical in the eyes of an innocent child.

The world is fun to explore and you just want to jump and run wild!

Curious of many things, everywhere you turn is whimsical.

In awe with a lot of things that seem astronomical.

You see beauty through your innocent eyes.

As for me, you are the beauty and it’s no surprise.

Days of Childhood

I remember….

When days were longer and the sun wasn’t as hot

Looking forward to summer and playing all day long

Danced and played in the rain

Running around, sweaty but with a huge smile on my face

Climb trees, scraped my knees

Flew a kite, learned how to ride a bike

Roller blading and falling and getting back up to try again

Yes, I remember those wonderful days

Scraped

I scraped my knee again.

Mom is going to be angry.

She’s going to count to ten

So I’ll enter the house, ending my play abruptly.

.

My knee already hurts but she’ll still scold me.

I’ll get banished to my room like Rapunzel trapped in the tower.

She’ll ground me indefinitely

Though I don’t know what that means.

All I know is that it would be more than an hour.

.

So instead of telling mom that I scraped my knee

I’ll keep this a secret and just wash the wound completely.

Mom doesn’t need to know so I can continue playing.

That sounds like a good plan, that’s all I’m saying.

Her Young Years

Hair of brown now lined with silver

Years of wisdom passed on

Gave her young years to her young one’s

And so her youth has gone.

But happiness and love only grew each day

For she had them and they have her

She may be growing older each year

But through her children, she will be young forever.

Can I Carry You?

I love this poem. I hope you all enjoy it too!
By: Brad Anderson
Published on February 2006
I guess that I can hold you

one more time before you grow

and tell you that I love you

so that you will always know.

Please let me tie your shoe again.

One day you’ll tie your own.

And when you think back to this time

I hope it’s love I’ve shown.

Can I help you put your coat on?

Can I please cut up your meat?

Can I pull you in the wagon?

Can I pick you out a treat?

One day you might just care for me,

so let me care for you.

I want to be a part

of every little thing you do.

Tonight could I please wash your hair?

Can I put toys in the bath?

Can I help you count your small ten toes

before I teach you math?

Before you join a baseball team

can I pitch you one more ball?

And one more time can I stand near

to make sure you don’t fall?

Let’s take another space-ship ride

Up to the Planet Zoor.

Before our Cardboard Rocket

doesn’t fit us anymore.

Please let me help you up the hill.

while you’re still too small to climb.

And let me read you stories

while you’re young and have the time.

I know the day will come

when you will do these things alone.

Will you recall the shoulder rides

and all the balls we’ve thrown?

I want you to grow stronger

than your Dad could ever be.

And when you find success

there will be no soul more proud than me.

So will you let me carry you?

One day you’ll walk alone.

I cannot bear to miss one day

from now until you’ve grown.

Revisit

Childhood memories,
Back to the time when days were carefree
And time did not fly.

When children played outside,
Enjoyed the sun,
And had bruises on their knees and elbows.
Yes! Good times!

Remembering and revisiting
Learning from the past

Moonchild

image

There was a reason she was so romantic about the moon.
It never asked her questions or begged for the answers, nor did she ever have to prove herself to it.
It was always just there – breathing, shining, and in ways most humans can’t understand, listening.

Eight

Life was fun, life was great
Life was mostly play when I was eight
Running around under the sun
I got the scars to prove it but boy was it fun!
I flied kites and played hide and seek
Not once did I ever peek

I’m glad to have had such a childhood
I was never in a hurry to enter adulthood
I look back, sometimes wishing to be a child again
But contented for what has happened

That Woman, My Mother

She gives her all never asking for anything in return
She’s tired all day but when she sees her children, she’s reborn
She goes the extra mile
Still manages to put on a smile
She is super and fun to be with
She only knows how to give
Oh that woman! She’s beyond compare
And this to the world I have to share
