The Wall

When I was small, my mama saw me drawing on our wall

She didn’t reprimand me, but she told me I could use the paper instead

As I grew up, I loved drawing even more

Then I tried painting, and fell in love with it

I came home one day and my mama was waiting

She said she wanted to show me something

We went upstairs to her small home office

As we entered, I saw brushes and paints and newspapers on the floor

She looked at me and said,

“On this wall, you’re free to draw and paint whatever you like.”
