Beat Out Of My Chest

Where do the years go?

Yesterday was one and then there were two

All of a sudden, before we knew it

Twenty-three years has passed

And the kids, are no longer little

When did they grow?

When did we grow….older?

Paint a picture of perfection

It is not our life

Yet I’m glad you were there through it all

I woke up to the morning and realized

Thirty years have been shared and nearly shattered

Forgive me for being so unkind not only sometimes

But most of the times

Thank you for the years, still more to come

Grey hair or not, I’m glad we’re here…together

Forgive me if I may seem heartless

It’s just my heart is no longer mine

You see, it beat right out of my chest

The day you came to my life

*For my parents on their 30th anniversary

Annabel Lee

It was many and many a year ago,

In a kingdom by the sea,

That a maiden there lived whom you may know

By the name of ANNABEL LEE;

And this maiden she lived with no other thought

Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,

In this kingdom by the sea;

But we loved with a love that was more than love-

 I and my Annabel Lee;

With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven

 Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,

 In this kingdom by the sea,

A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling

My beautiful Annabel Lee;

 So that her highborn kinsman came

And bore her away from me,

To shut her up in a sepulchre

 In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,

Went envying her and me-

Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,

In this kingdom by the sea)

That the wind came out of the cloud by night,

 Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love

 Of those who were older than we-

 Of many far wiser than we-

And neither the angels in heaven above,

Nor the demons down under the sea,

Can ever dissever my soul from the soul

Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams

 Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

 And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes

 Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side

 Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,

In the sepulchre there by the sea,

In her tomb by the sounding sea.

-Edgar Allan Poe-

This poem is my all time favorite from my all time favorite poet. This poem was my first ever post in this blog as well, which was a year ago.

Heavy heart on a heavy coat

You look so down and older

The rain is pouring heavily on you

Washing out any trace of happiness

Pour it out like a tea to a cup

I’m here for you and I’ll catch your fall

Beat your weariness to the beat of the drum

Let’s chase your blues away on a fast car

The sunshine is just behind dark clouds

And you don’t have to do it alone

And Then The Music Played

I heard the music played and started tapping

my feet at first

then my fingers

before I knew it, I was dancing

on air, beyond the clouds

above and beyond

Sweet, sweet music

play me the jazz, the acoustics, the ballads

alternative rock and country

Oh! how I become woozy, light-headed

in a good way

I sang my heart out

even my soul leapt out

I heard the music played and that was all I heard

I feel so low, they’ve pushed me down

and kept my head beneath the water

I try to please yet they criticize, scrutinize

every single thing I do

I say

as I can’t do anything right

I feel useless, abandoned, neglected,

thrown aside for the vultures to feast on

They couldn’t possibly do anymore

take more

for I have nothing

I feel nothing

I am nothing

I am empty now

nothing but a shell

and I am left emotionless, the uncertainty

Has hardened my heart, my soul

my humanity

They’ve done all the damage and now

I am nothing but dirt

Nothing Comes To Mind

he looked at me like a blank page

just passed me by

goodbye sunny side of town

for when my name comes up

he blinks absent-mindedly and nothing comes to mind

am I real and do I matter?

sadly he sees through as if I’m transparent

and I am nothing but a familiar face

Dancing On The Moon

I rode the star that never shines

To Mercury, to Mars and beyond

The constellations greeted me in unison

While the comets shot a wave across the space so wide

I brought horses from the grounds beneath

To place them among the everlasting dark backdrop

Like pasting them on colored paper

Venus said hello all the while her radiant beauty glowed

And Saturn boasted of her elegant rings

All these happened and all these I’ve done

As I danced on the moon with a Super Nova

Long Distance

over the sun where the seas run deep

my love lies waiting

across the desert of ocean, in a lost town

is where my love awaits

the moon never shines on the mountain white

but it is there that my love awaits

until we are together once more

Evening Star

‘Twas noontide of summer,
And mid-time of night;
And stars, in their orbits,
Shone pale, thro’ the light
Of the brighter, cold moon,
‘Mid planets her slaves,
Herself in the Heavens,
Her beam on the waves.
I gazed awhile
On her cold smile;
Too cold- too cold for me-
There pass’d, as a shroud,
A fleecy cloud,
And I turned away to thee,
Proud Evening Star,
In thy glory afar,
And dearer thy beam shall be;
For joy to my heart
Is the proud part
Thou bearest in Heaven at night,
And more I admire
Thy distant fire,
          Than that colder, lowly light.
